About the role
Junk Boat Tours runs three restored sailing junks out of Aberdeen: sunset harbour sails, a Sai Kung island day trip, and private charters that range from a wedding proposal to a fifty-person company outing. There are eleven of us. Everybody does a bit of everything.
This ten-week internship is a genuine operations seat, not a coffee run. You will build the sailing schedule with the skippers, confirm bookings, brief guests at the pier, chase the weather forecast that decides whether we sail at all, and handle the small crises that come with boats and tides.
It suits a student or recent graduate in tourism, hospitality or event management who wants to see how a small operator actually works — pricing, OTA listings, crew rostering, safety paperwork and all. You will report to the Operations Manager and spend at least one day a week on the water.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain the weekly sailing schedule across three vessels, working around tides, crew availability and typhoon signals
- Confirm bookings and manifests, and communicate with guests by phone, WhatsApp and email before every sailing
- Meet and brief guests at Aberdeen pier, including the safety briefing and boarding
- Keep our listings, availability and pricing accurate on the booking platforms we sell through
- Prepare provisioning lists for catered charters and coordinate with our two food suppliers
- Maintain safety and Marine Department documentation for each vessel and log every sailing
What we're looking for
- Currently studying towards, or recently awarded, a bachelor's degree in tourism, hospitality, events or a related field
- Available full time for ten consecutive weeks including weekends — weekends are when we sail
- Business-level Cantonese and English; our guest mix is roughly half local, half visitor
- Comfortable on a boat in open water and happy to work outdoors in Hong Kong summer weather
- Right to work in Hong Kong
Nice to have
- Any boating, sailing or watersports experience
- Mandarin or a European language for our charter clients
- Basic first aid or a pleasure-vessel operator certificate
What you get
- Paid internship with a completion bonus and a written reference
- One day a week crewing on the water, properly, with the skippers
- Lunch provided on sailing days
- Free sailings for you and two guests on completion
- Genuine chance of a full-time offer — two of our current coordinators started here
