About the role
BrightLedger connects to the accounting systems, bank feeds and payment platforms that Hong Kong SMEs use, and turns the result into cash-flow forecasting and lending decisions. Everything downstream — the models, the dashboards, the credit decisions — depends on a data layer that has to reconcile inputs from a dozen systems that disagree with each other about what a transaction is.
The Data Platform team is four engineers in Wong Chuk Hang. We run dbt on a warehouse, Airflow for orchestration, and a growing set of streaming ingests for the connectors that support them. The role opened because we have moved from twelve source integrations to thirty-one in a year and the pipeline patterns that carried us here will not carry us further.
This is a hands-on build role with unusually direct feedback: when a pipeline is wrong, a lending decision is wrong, and you will hear about it from a human being the same week. The team works in English end to end.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain ingestion pipelines from accounting, banking and payment sources with schema drift handled rather than hoped away
- Model core datasets in dbt, with tests and documented lineage that a credit analyst can follow
- Own data quality: freshness, completeness and reconciliation checks that fail loudly before anyone downstream notices
- Optimise warehouse cost and query performance as volumes grow — the bill is a shared team metric
- Support the analytics and risk modelling teams as an engineer, not a ticket queue
- Contribute to the data contracts we hold our own product engineers to
What we're looking for
- 4+ years in data engineering with production ownership of pipelines other teams depend on
- Strong SQL and Python; comfort with dbt or an equivalent transformation framework
- Experience with a cloud warehouse and an orchestrator such as Airflow, Dagster or Prefect
- Sound data modelling instincts — you can defend a schema decision six months later
- Business English; this team's working language is English only
Nice to have
- Financial or accounting data domain knowledge, including double-entry structures
- Streaming experience with Kafka or Kinesis
- Infrastructure-as-code exposure, particularly Terraform
What you get
- Hybrid with two anchor days in Wong Chuk Hang, five minutes from the South Island line
- Medical, dental and mental health support with no claim cap on counselling
- HK$15,000 learning budget and one conference a year, travel included
- Share options with a four-year vest and no cliff after year one
- Visa sponsorship, including IANG-track candidates
