About the role
Mongkok Market Online sells everything from Japanese snacks to phone cases to rice cookers, and roughly 70% of our sessions start on a mobile home page that changes twice a day. Site merchandising is the team that decides what goes in those slots: which categories lead, which promotions get a hero tile, and which of the 60,000 live SKUs deserve to be surfaced before a shopper types anything.
We have grown fast enough that merchandising is still being done by instinct and a very large spreadsheet. This role exists to change that. You will inherit a search-and-ranking platform the engineering team rebuilt last year, a clean event stream, and a mandate to turn browse pages into a proper commercial surface rather than a wall of products.
You will sit between the category buyers in Mong Kok and the product squad, and you will be the person the marketing team argues with on Monday morning about who gets the top banner. Bring a view, and bring the numbers to back it.
What you'll do
- Plan and publish daily home page, category landing and campaign merchandising across web and app, including the 8am and 6pm refresh slots
- Tune search relevance and category sort rules with the ranking team, then measure the effect on click-through and conversion by placement
- Run weekly trading meetings with the buying leads: what sold, what stalled, and what we are pushing next week
- Build and maintain the seasonal merchandising calendar around Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn, back-to-school and the 11.11 window
- Design and read A/B tests on tile layout, badge logic and price presentation, and write up what we learned in plain language
- Clean up the taxonomy — retire dead categories, fix mis-tagged SKUs, and keep the browse tree navigable on a 6-inch screen
What we're looking for
- 4+ years in e-commerce merchandising, trading or category management, at least two of them on a Hong Kong or Greater China site
- Comfortable in a merchandising or CMS back office and confident reading GA4 or an equivalent analytics stack without waiting for a data analyst
- Fluent Cantonese and business English — you will brief local buyers and write copy that gets read by shoppers in both languages
- Bachelor's degree, and a track record you can talk through: a placement decision you made, and what it did to revenue per session
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets — pivot tables, XLOOKUP, and a healthy scepticism about averages
Nice to have
- Experience with a headless commerce stack or a homegrown PIM
- SQL good enough to pull your own basket-level data
- Worked a peak trading period on the operations side, not just the marketing side
What you get
- Hybrid — two days from home, three in the Mong Kok office
- 15 days annual leave rising to 20, plus your birthday off
- Medical and dental for you and one dependant
- HK$800 monthly staff shopping credit on the marketplace
- Free breakfast in the office pantry and a very serious coffee machine
