About the role
Every year we take two paralegal interns into the disputes team for a six-month placement. It is not a photocopying scheme. Our interns prepare trial bundles that go to the Court of First Instance, and their research memos are read by the partner before a conference with counsel.
This intake starts in October 2026 and is aimed at final-year LLB and JD students on deferred entry, PCLL students who can commit to weekdays, and graduates deciding whether litigation is for them. Two of our current associates started here.
You will sit with Cheryl Tam in Central, share an office with the other intern, and be invited to every case conference we run. We will tell you when you are wrong, and we will tell you why.
What you'll do
- Prepare and paginate trial, hearing and application bundles, and keep the index current as documents arrive.
- Carry out first-pass legal research on discrete points and summarise it in a one-page memo with the authorities attached.
- Assist with document review and chronology building on discovery-heavy matters.
- File documents at the District Court and Court of First Instance registries and report back on what happened.
- Take notes at conferences with counsel and circulate a clean action list the same day.
- Maintain matter files, correspondence bundles and the team's deadline diary.
What we're looking for
- Final-year LLB, JD or PCLL student, or a recent law graduate, from a Hong Kong or overseas institution.
- Available five days a week for a continuous six-month placement from October.
- Careful written English, plus Cantonese for registry counters and client calls.
- Meticulous with dates, page numbers and file naming — the job rewards it.
Nice to have
- Mooting, legal clinic or student law society experience.
- Basic familiarity with the Rules of the High Court.
- Chinese word processing at a usable speed.
What you get
- Paid placement with a proper monthly salary, not an honorarium
- A named supervising solicitor and a signed reference on completion
- Attendance at hearings and client conferences from week two
- Lunch provided on court days
- Priority consideration for our trainee solicitor intake
