About the role
Evergreen Assurance's direct channel sells travel, home, motor and simple term cover online and through the mobile app. It is a small share of a large company's premium, growing fast, and permanently in tension with a hundred-year-old operating model — which is the honest reason this job is interesting.
As product owner you would run the digital purchase and servicing journeys: quote and buy, policy amendment, renewal, and the claims notification flow that decides whether a customer's worst week involves a phone queue. You own a squad of seven — engineers, a designer and a business analyst — plus the backlog and the release decision.
You will spend meaningful time with Underwriting, Actuarial and Compliance, because every simplification you propose to a customer journey has a technical, pricing or regulatory counterpart. The people who succeed in this role are the ones who can hold both conversations without losing patience with either.
What you'll do
- Own the roadmap and backlog for digital quote, buy, servicing and first notification of loss journeys
- Write user stories and acceptance criteria precise enough for engineering and defensible to Compliance
- Run discovery with real customers, including the ones who abandoned the funnel and can tell you why
- Track conversion, straight-through processing rate and digital servicing adoption, and report on them monthly
- Broker the trade-offs between underwriting appetite, pricing accuracy and a journey people will finish
- Chair sprint reviews with business stakeholders and keep the release decision with the squad
What we're looking for
- 6+ years in product ownership or digital delivery, at least 2 within insurance, banking or another regulated consumer business
- Track record shipping customer-facing digital journeys and improving a measurable funnel
- Comfortable reading policy wordings and underwriting rules well enough to argue about them
- Business Cantonese and English; the app is bilingual and so are the customer sessions
- Experience working in agile delivery with a dedicated squad, including backlog ownership
Nice to have
- General insurance product knowledge across travel, motor or home
- IIQE papers or an insurance qualification
- Familiarity with policy administration systems and their integration constraints
What you get
- Two work-from-home days a week and core hours rather than fixed hours
- Family medical, dental and enhanced parental leave
- 25 days annual leave and paid study leave for insurance qualifications
- Wan Chai office connected to the MTR, with a subsidised staff restaurant
