About the role
Evergreen Assurance has been reporting under IFRS 17 for three cycles. The numbers are right, the auditors are satisfied, and the process is exhausting — a close that consumes three weeks of a fifteen-person team, held together by spreadsheet bridges nobody wants to inherit.
This role is about the next phase: industrialising the reporting engine, retiring the manual bridges, and turning the CSM roll-forward into something the Group CFO can interrogate on day six rather than day eighteen. You would manage four analysts directly, own the general measurement model and VFA calculation chain for our Hong Kong and regional entities, and work shoulder to shoulder with Group Finance and the modelling platform team.
The Chief Actuary is explicit that this is a build role, not a caretaker role. If your idea of a good year is closing the books the same way twelve times, this will frustrate you.
What you'll do
- Own the quarterly IFRS 17 actuarial close for the Hong Kong entity and two regional subsidiaries — CSM roll-forward, risk adjustment, onerous contract testing
- Lead the automation programme replacing spreadsheet bridges with controlled processes in the actuarial platform
- Line-manage and develop four analysts, including exam progression and rotation planning
- Prepare and present movement analysis and results commentary to the Group CFO, Audit Committee and external auditors
- Set and document the methodology for transition adjustments, coverage units and discount rate construction
- Partner with valuation, pricing and finance systems on the data lineage that any of them may be asked to evidence
What we're looking for
- Qualified actuary (FSA, FIA, FIAA or equivalent) with 8+ years' post-graduate experience, at least 3 in financial reporting
- Demonstrated ownership of an IFRS 17 close cycle — general measurement model and variable fee approach, not just theory
- Experience managing a small actuarial team through a reporting deadline without losing anyone
- Fluency in an actuarial platform (Prophet, AXIS, RAFM) plus the data tooling around it
- Native-level English for board-facing commentary; conversational Mandarin for regional entity calls
Nice to have
- Big Four actuarial or insurance audit background
- Experience with HKRBC alongside IFRS 17 reporting
- Python or SQL used in anger for reconciliation and controls
What you get
- Discretionary bonus of 15-25%, plus 13th month
- 25 days annual leave, and the actuarial function shuts down for a week after each year-end close
- Family medical, dental, and enhanced maternity and paternity leave
- Visa sponsorship and a relocation package for overseas candidates
- Wan Chai office directly above the MTR, with a hybrid pattern of two days at home
