Junction Pay started in a Cyberport incubator in 2016 with one product: a way for a Hong Kong garment agent to pay a Vietnamese factory without waiting four days and losing 3% to correspondent banking. That single corridor became eleven, and the company now moves money for around 34,000 small businesses across Asia.
The platform is a licensed stored-value facility with local collection accounts in nine markets, an FX engine that quotes off multiple liquidity providers, and a compliance stack that has to satisfy regulators who did not write their rules with a company like this in mind. Engineering, compliance and operations work as one triad on every corridor launch — the running joke is that a payments company is a compliance company that happens to have an API.
Junction is past the scrappy stage and into the awkward middle: 300-odd people, real revenue, a Series C behind it, and the internal work of turning heroics into process.
