Typhoon Signal makes an observability and edge-delivery toolkit for engineering teams whose users are on patchy mobile networks — Southeast Asian commuters, mainland users behind aggressive middleboxes, ferry passengers between islands. The founders, all three of them former mobile engineers, started the company in 2020 after rebuilding the same retry-and-cache layer at three different employers.
The product is a small, sharp SDK plus a dashboard that shows what real users experienced rather than what a synthetic test in a data centre saw. Around 600 engineering teams use it, mostly through self-serve, and the company still has no outbound sales function.
There are twenty-three people, most of them engineers, working out of a converted floor in Sheung Wan. The company is bootstrapped and profitable, which the founders treat as an ideological position — no board, no growth targets set by someone else, and a four-day week trialled in 2025 that became permanent.
