About the role
Our Tseung Kwan O centre needs additional tutors for the new academic year. Groups are capped at six students, the schemes of work and worksheets are already written, and you are paid for preparation time as well as contact hours — which, judging by what tutors tell us about other centres, is worth saying out loud.
Most of our part-time tutors are undergraduates, postgraduate students, or working professionals who teach two evenings a week. A good number of our full-time tutors started exactly this way, and we promote from within before we advertise.
You will be assigned by subject strength: English, Chinese, Mathematics or Junior Science. Tell us in your application which two you would be confident teaching and which year levels.
What you'll do
- Teach two to four group sessions per week, 90 minutes each, to groups of no more than six students.
- Deliver the centre's prepared materials and mark classwork and homework before the next session.
- Write a short progress note for each student every month for the centre to share with parents.
- Flag students who are falling behind to the centre supervisor early rather than at term end.
- Cover the occasional additional session during examination season, by agreement.
What we're looking for
- Level 4 or above in the HKDSE for the subjects you intend to teach, or an equivalent overseas qualification.
- Currently reading, or already holding, a bachelor's degree.
- Native Cantonese and business-level English — most sessions are taught in Cantonese with English materials.
- Available at least two weekday evenings (5pm–9pm) or Saturday mornings, for a full academic term.
- Patience with eleven-year-olds on a Friday evening, which is a genuine and rare skill.
Nice to have
- Previous tutoring, coaching or camp-leading experience.
- Strength in two subjects rather than one — it makes rostering easier and earns you more hours.
- Availability during the summer intensive programme in July and August.
What you get
- HK$260–400 per contact hour depending on subject and level
- Preparation and marking time paid at HK$120 per hour
- All teaching materials provided — you never write a worksheet from scratch
- Paid induction and two training sessions per term
- Priority consideration for full-time tutor roles across all centres
