Graduate Software Engineer Programme (Jan 2027 Cohort)

About the role

Every January we take a small cohort of graduates — twelve this time — and put them through eighteen months of rotations across platform engineering, reliability, and customer engineering. Not a shadowing programme: you commit code in week three, and by the second rotation you are carrying a low-severity page during business hours with a mentor beside you.

We run it this way because CloudPeak's work is genuinely hard to learn from the outside. Understanding why a bank will not approve a change until Thursday, or why an operator must be idempotent, is not something a degree covers. Roughly two-thirds of our senior engineers who joined as graduates are still here.

The cohort starts on 5 January 2027 at Science Park, with a shuttle from University station. Applications close at the end of September and we run assessment centres through October.

What you'll do

• Complete three six-month rotations across platform engineering, reliability and customer engineering.
• Ship production code from your first rotation onward, reviewed by the senior engineer mentoring you.
• Work toward a funded cloud certification in your first year — AWS, Azure or CKA, your choice.
• Shadow the on-call rotation, then join it for business hours with support once you are ready.
• Present your rotation project to the engineering group at the end of each placement.
• Take part in the cohort's community work — running the campus workshops we hold each spring.

What we're looking for

• A bachelor's degree conferred in 2026 — this cohort is reserved for 2026 graduates.
• A computing, engineering, mathematics or related discipline, or a demonstrable self-taught portfolio.
• Evidence you can program: coursework, internships, open source or personal projects we can look at.
• Business-level Cantonese and English; HKDSE English Level 3 or equivalent.
• The unrestricted right to work in Hong Kong — IANG holders are welcome and no sponsorship is required for this programme.

Nice to have

• An internship or industrial placement in software or infrastructure.
• Linux comfort — you have broken your own machine and fixed it.
• Contributions to an open-source project, however small.
