Videographer & Editor — Studio Internship

About the role

Pearl Studio shoots two to three days most weeks: product tabletop in our Kwun Tong studio, retail and location work across the city, and the occasional trip up to Shenzhen. Our film unit is four people, and interns here are treated as the fifth, not as an errand service.

The first six weeks are honest apprenticeship — you will build and strike sets, wrangle cables, log and back up media, and learn why the sound recordist is never wrong. After that you start assisting on camera and cutting selects, and by month three we expect you to deliver a social edit that goes to a client with your name on it.

We run this internship twice a year and hire from it whenever the work supports a headcount. Three of our current full-timers started this way.

What you'll do

• Assist on set: lighting setup, grip, cable management, and keeping the shot list moving.
• Own media management — offload, checksum, back up to two locations, and log footage to studio naming convention.
• Cut selects and rough assemblies in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve for the editors to refine.
• Deliver social cut-downs and subtitle files in 繁體中文 and English under supervision.
• Maintain kit: batteries charged, cards formatted, lenses clean, and an accurate check-out sheet.
• Shoot behind-the-scenes content for the studio's own channels.

What we're looking for

• Currently studying or recently graduated from a higher diploma or degree in film, media production, design or a related field.
• A showreel or two or three pieces you shot or cut yourself — student work is completely fine, we care about the eye.
• Working knowledge of Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
• Native Cantonese for crew and location communication; conversational English for briefs and client files.
• Physically able to handle set work and long shoot days, and available at least four days a week for six months.

Nice to have

• Any camera assistant experience, even on a student set.
• Basic After Effects for simple titles and clean-up.
• A driving licence — enormously useful for location days.
