Bauhinia Community Trust has delivered social services in Hong Kong since 1992. It runs elderly day centres in Sha Tin and Tuen Mun, an after-school and mentoring programme for young people in public housing estates, and casework support for new-arrival and low-income families navigating housing, schooling and welfare systems.
The Trust is partly funded by the Social Welfare Department's Lump Sum Grant and partly by donations and a small social enterprise arm — a catering operation staffed by trainees from its employment programme. Around 280 staff and several hundred volunteers deliver the work.
It is a well-run organisation that people join for the mission and stay for the culture. Salaries are NGO salaries and the Trust is upfront about it, but supervision is strong, professional development for social workers is funded, and the leadership team has an unusually good reputation for protecting frontline staff from funding-cycle turbulence.
