About the role
Our Tuen Mun service centre works with families in three public housing estates: casework, a school social work contract covering two secondary schools, and an evening youth outreach team that goes where the young people actually are, which is rarely the centre.
We are recruiting two Registered Social Workers because we lost two to burnout last year, and we have changed things rather than pretending we did not. Individual caseloads are capped and the cap is enforced by the Service Head, not by hope. Supervision is weekly, one hour, protected. Evening and Saturday duty is rostered a month ahead and compensated with time off in lieu that you are expected to actually take.
You will join a team of eleven under Alan Fung, Service Head for Family & Youth. The other new colleague starts the same week as you, which makes the first three months considerably less lonely.
What you'll do
- Carry a casework load of families and young people, including intake assessment, care planning and review
- Provide individual and family counselling, with crisis intervention where risk is identified
- Deliver group work programmes — parenting groups, emotion regulation groups and a youth mentoring cycle each term
- Run school-based sessions and consultations at our two partner secondary schools
- Join the evening outreach rota roughly one week in three, engaging young people at estate hotspots
- Maintain case records to registration standards and prepare statutory and funder reports
- Refer and co-work with clinical psychology, integrated family service centres and housing colleagues
What we're looking for
- Registered Social Worker with the Social Workers Registration Board of Hong Kong
- Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work from a recognised institution
- 3+ years of casework experience in family, youth or integrated family service settings
- Native Cantonese; Putonghua helpful for newly arrived families
- Willing to work evening and Saturday duty on a published rota
Nice to have
- Training in narrative therapy, satir model or trauma-informed practice
- Experience with school social work contracts
- Familiarity with the Tuen Mun district service network
What you get
- 13th month salary and annual increment
- Weekly protected clinical supervision, plus quarterly external group supervision
- Enforced caseload cap and rostered time off in lieu for evening duty
- Medical, dental and an employee counselling line for staff
- HK$8,000 CPD subsidy a year and five days of study leave
- 20 days annual leave rising to 24 with service
